Around the Railway (Autumn Event 2024) - In 1972, GFM acquired two railcars, designated BDe 4/4 141 and 142, for gravel transport. These railcars were initially used with gravel trains and a control car. Later, they operated as shuttle trains in regional services for GFM and TPF, each time sporting the then-current livery.  GFM Histoique  restored its BDe 4/4 141 and is displaying it in its original colors. The relatively modern design, combined with the already somewhat dated 1972 livery, gives the BDe 4/4 141 a particularly striking appeal. The photo shows the railcar in Blonay.

The BLS RABe 528 122 is leaving Brig. In itself, nothing special. But this RABe 528 is operating for Region Alpes and runs to Saint Gingolph (and back).  
Region Alpes has leased this service from BLS on weekdays because passenger numbers have increased significantly and the capacities of Region Alpes will only be improved with the delivery of the EVO railcars.

Since the new TMR/SNCF Beh 4/8 92/983 (UIC 90 85 838 0892-2) lingered in Finhaut for a few more minutes before departing for Salvan, I was able to photograph the train, bathed in sunlight, from various perspectives, as far as access allowed.

The LEB G 3/3 No. 5 of the Blonay Chamby Railway is being supplied with water and coal in Chaulin for the next journey. In the background, the BFD HG 3/4 No. 3 of the Blonay Chamby Railway can be seen.  
Furthermore, the picture also shows volunteer staff who carry out their not always easy work behind the scenes, without whom the visitors of the Blonay Chamby Railway would not be able to enjoy the wonderful steam atmosphere. In this spirit, a big thank you to all the hardworking helpers in front of and behind the scenes of the Blonay Chamby Railway.

Due to construction work between Iselle and Domodossola, the BLS RABe 528 operate as R1 hourly (instead of every two hours) from Brig to Iselle. In Iselle, there was then a bus connection to Domodossola. Of photographic interest, however, were the BLS RABe 528 turning around in Iselle, as the next three pictures show.

Not only the railway facilities, but also the surroundings of Renens VD station have been completely redesigned in recent years. And now I have discovered that right next to the tracks there is a new footpath that offers a good view of the station head towards Lausanne.  
In the picture, an IR 90 heading towards Genève and an SBB ICN RABe 500 as IC 5 from Romanshorn to Lausanne.

The leased IRSI/IGE Re 4/4 II 11387 (Re 421 387-2) replaces the BAM MBC Re 420 506, which is currently undergoing revision in Bellinzona.

Numerous Region Alpes EVO RABe 533 are already in service, so the RABe 525 NINA will likely disappear from scheduled service in the foreseeable future, making it worthwhile to capture both trains in one picture. While the RABe 733 703 is traveling as R91 from Birg to Monthey, the RABe 525 039 is waiting as R 81 for departure to Le Châble. April 9, 2026

The TGV Rame 232 (Néo Duplex/ STF TGV 2N) with the power cars 29063/64 is arriving at Antibes station. What particularly fascinated me was the snow on the mountains far in the background and the palm tree on the right side of the image as a contrast to the scene.

To my surprise, the TER 96634 was operated with Corail coaches, and at the end, the control car seen here was running. The TER 96634 is on the route from Genève to Valence-Ville and was photographed as the train passed through La Plaine. Much more interesting would have been the BB 22200 running at the front, but since a Léman-Express RABe 522 was standing right behind me, I couldn't see the train coming from Genève. I am standing at the westernmost end of platform 1; the track on the left in the picture ends shortly before with a buffer stop. Also interesting (and the intended subject of the photo) is the old SNCF DC catenary mast, which was adapted as needed during the transition from DC to AC. But now it seems that the station at La Plaine is being rebuilt and the seventy-year-old masts will have to give way. April 16, 2026

The route first follows the usual CEVA line, then goes through the approximately one-kilometer-long Chatalaine Tunnel before the line merges into the Genève - La Plaine line. But back to the picture: The train is now standing in Vernier and must be quickly parked, as the RL5 to La Plaine will arrive in a few minutes. The train will be parked at the former station and current cargo site Vernier-Meyrin. Whether it will remain there until the evening for the return service is unknown to me. April 16, 2026

In the  gap slots  of the two-hourly offered EC Zurich - Munich, the S7 runs from Romanshorn to Lindau Insel. At least on weekends. For some time now, however, also at certain times during the week and, as already mentioned, to Lindau Insel instead of previously to Lindau Reutin. The quite good frequency of the S7 should justify the relatively long stop at Lindau Insel; I assume that the service will be expanded in the future and thus can be  produced  more cost-effectively. Don't worry, I won't be run over by the approaching train! At Bregenz Hafen, the through track (right in the picture) and the stub track on the left (in the picture/for the S-Bahn trains turning here) each have their own barrier.  
This allowed the SBB ETR 610 heading to Munich to be photographed from this position shortly after departure in Bregenz.

At first glance, a mundane picture; but upon closer inspection, the destination display reveals the special feature: The SBB LEX RABe 522 220 is on its way to Vernier as Léman Express 23535 of the new RL7 line! Introduced with the timetable change, the RL7 connects Annemasse directly with Geneva Airport or with Vernier. The trains use the approximately 1 km long tunnel from Châtelaine, which is also used by freight trains on the Bellegarde - Genève La Praille route. Unfortunately, the service, which is based on strong demand, is not very extensive with only four train pairs per day, especially considering that one train pair runs to and from the airport, two trains go to Vernier, but only one returns, and the remaining three trains operate only on the Annemasse - Lancy Pont Rouge section. Our train from Palermo to Messina, the iC 730, was stationed on platform 1 at Palermo Centrale that day, which did not exactly make photographing easy... The FS Trenitalia E 464 213 is leading the train, which today is also operating with the train section from Siracusa to Messina, as the Messina - Taormina route was still closed the day before.
