Léman Express in La Roche sur Foron: There, the SNCF Z31525 and the SBB RABe 522 232 are waiting for departure. The SNCF Z 31525 is on its way from Coppet to St-Gervais les Bains Le Fayet, and the SBB LEX RABe 522 from Annecy to Coppet, thus providing a good connection in La Roche sur Foron from Annecy to St-Gervais les Bains le Fayet.

Four tracks, three routes, two power systems, and one train – between St-Jean and Genève, the SBB LEX RABe 522 228 is operating as RL5 23042 on the journey from Genève to La Plaine.
The train runs on the track remaining after the construction of the line to Genève Aéroport, which is designed according to SNCF standards and thus electrified with AC 25,000 volts 50 hertz. To the right of it run the two tracks of the double track to and from Genève Aéroport, and on the far left in the picture is the track to Annemasse. These three tracks are electrified with SBB 16,000 volts 2/3 hertz. The second track from the right is also used by trains to Annemasse up to the St-Jean junction, which probably explains why right-hand traffic prevails on the line to Annemasse.

The SBB RABe 522 206 is traveling as Mobigo TER 18173 / RE 56 18173 from Meroux to Biel/Bienne. The Flirt has arrived in Delle, where it switches systems from SNCF to SBB-CFF and has a three-minute stop for this, just enough time to quickly take a few pictures. This image shows, besides the mentioned RABe 522 206, also the SNCF X73757 standing here in the background. Thus, diesel vehicles are also (again) used on the electrified Delle - Belfort line. The SNCF X 73757 Baleine arrived in Delle as MOBIGO TER 895005 from Belfort at 8:19 and will return to Belfort as MOBIGO TER 895004 at 14:41. November 3, 2025

The SBB RABe Flirt 522 209, operating as TER 18169 (or RE56 18169 from Delle), arrives at Grandvillars station on its journey from Meroux to Biel/Bienne. Once again in the eventful history of the Delle - Belfort line, a new chapter will begin with the timetable change in December 2025: SNCF multiple units will take over service almost hourly; connections will no longer be interrupted in Meroux; however, international passengers will need to change trains in Delle. The SBB RABe 522 213 arrives at Genève station as RL 5. Clearly visible are the classic light signals, which will soon be replaced. Also worth noting: the SBB LEX 522 213 was only subsequently converted to the LEX variant from a normal RABe 522.

With the 2024/25 timetable change, a new concept was introduced in the Jura region. Among other changes, the RER Jura trains now run every half hour to Delle, but the direct connections to Meroux have been discontinued. In return, SNCF TER trains now run hourly (on weekdays) from Delle to Belfort. The photo from Delle shows the arriving SBB RABe 522 210, which is turning around here for its return journey to Porrentruy, and the SNCF X 73755, operating as a TER to Belfort.

At first glance, a mundane picture; but upon closer inspection, the destination display reveals the special feature: The SBB LEX RABe 522 220 is on its way to Vernier as Léman Express 23535 of the new RL7 line! Introduced with the timetable change, the RL7 connects Annemasse directly with Geneva Airport or with Vernier. The trains use the approximately 1 km long tunnel from Châtelaine, which is also used by freight trains on the Bellegarde - Genève La Praille route. Unfortunately, the service, which is based on strong demand, is not very extensive with only four train pairs per day, especially considering that one train pair runs to and from the airport, two trains go to Vernier, but only one returns, and the remaining three trains operate only on the Annemasse - Lancy Pont Rouge section. SBB LEX RABe 522 220 has arrived at the destination of its journey as Léman Express 23535 on the new RL7 line. The train was very well occupied. The route first follows the usual CEVA line, then goes through the approximately one-kilometer-long Chatalaine Tunnel before the line merges into the Genève - La Plaine line. But back to the picture: The train is now standing in Vernier and must be quickly parked, as the RL5 to La Plaine will arrive in a few minutes. The train will be parked at the former station and current cargo site Vernier-Meyrin. Whether it will remain there until the evening for the return service is unknown to me. April 16, 2026

Once a day (and direction), from Monday to Friday, the IR 56 and RE 56 cross at Grenchen Nord, providing not only a colorful scene but also hope that the Pronturter region will not be cut off from the rest of Switzerland in the future. First off, the EXIF date is correct – the SBB RABe 522 210 is operating as RE 56 4560 on its way to Biel/Bienne, a good month after the timetable change and the conversion of the RE 56 Biel/Bienne - Meroux to the IR Biel/Bienne - Basel SBB! The solution to the puzzle: Presumably to connect the SBB RABe 522 trains still in service in the Jura region to the maintenance depot in Biel/Bienne, a train pair runs as RE56 from the Pruntrut region to Biel/Bienne and back from Monday to Friday. The SBB RABe 522 210 is traveling as RE56 4561 from Bonfol to Biel/Bienne and is leaving the MLB BLS station Grenchen Nord. January 13, 2026
