The SBB Re 460 028 (Re 460 91 85 4 460 028-4 CH-SBB) has been carrying the very attractive advertising decoration in all four national languages "Swiss Hiking Trails / Suisse Rando / Sentieri Svizzeri / Sendas Svizras" since May 2026. I was able to photograph the SBB Re 460 028 with an IR 90 in Lausanne using my now twenty-year-old small digital camera, which, however, reached its limits under these lighting conditions.

Now the E 3/3 853 (UIC 90 85 0008 573-3) with its steam train to Sumiswald is ready to depart.

In Sumiswald, the traditional Gotthelf Market takes place, and for this market, the "Emmental Railway" operates several steam trains on the Sumiswald Grünen - Wasen i.E. route. The picture shows the E 3/3 853 of the Dampf Bahn Bern association shunting in Wasen in the Emmental. The steam locomotive was built in 1890 in Winterthur under factory number 629 and delivered as F3 853 to the J-S (Jura-Simplon Railway). At the SBB, the shunting locomotives of series E 3/3 with operating numbers 851 - 853 were assigned to group 82 and received the numbers 8571 - 8576. In 1911, locomotive E 3/3 853 received a new boiler and was sold to the RVT, where it remained in service until 1928 before being used as an "industrial shunting locomotive" at Von Roll in Gerlafingen and Klus. When diesel locomotives made the steam locomotive obsolete, it was saved from scrapping by the Düby Foundation by being handed over to the DBB. After an overhaul in 1983, it operated, among other places, on the Sensetalbahn. Following another overhaul in 2021, the DBB E 3/3 853 is mainly used on the Emmentalbahn route between Sumiswald-Grünen and Wasen i.E. Today, the E 3/3 853 carries the UIC number 90 85 0008 573-7.
About the Sumiswald-Grünen Wasen i.E. route: This line was opened together with the Ramsei - Huttwil route by the RSHB on June 1, 1908, but could not be operated profitably. In 1994, the VHB converted the line to bus operation. Since 2014, the ETB has taken over the route, and besides freight traffic to the RUWA siding, museum trains run on the line.

France offers not only fast trains but also very cozy ones: Shortly after the summit station La Rhune (905 m above sea level), the Chemin de fer de la Rhune He 2/2, built in 1914 by SLM/BBC, with a maximum speed of 9 km/h, is on its first train of the day heading down to the "valley," where "valley station" refers to the mountain pass Col de Saint-Ignace at 198 m above sea level.
