It is Saturday 5 September 2026 and the first saturday of September and that means the VSM train bonanza Terug naar Toen (Back to Yonder) that sees every hour a steam train between the VSM's head quartes Beekbergen and Apeldoorn (connecting to the national railways network); five steam trains to Dieren (connecting with the national railways network) and every 45 minutes a steam train to and from Loenen. NS Class 2200 were deliverd all in this brown livery for freight locomotives and deployment on passenger services within NS have been rare. Here VSM 2233 banks a steam hauled shuttle train out of Loenen to Beekbergen.

From 'my' train at Loenen ex-NS 2412 with Plan-D coach was photographed. When NS ordered Class 2400 in 1951, the firstbatch of the Class, 2401-2413 was delivered inturqouise livery to match with the coaches that had a slightly brighter turqouise (the difference is visible inthis picture). Before 1956 NS had second thoughts about turqouise, that can become dirty rather quickly, and decided to use Berlin or Prussian blue for hauled passenger stock. All Diesel locomotives of Classes 2200 and 2400 turned dark brown for freight service untill the 1970s,that saw the rise of dark grey and yellow as the new corporate identity. In 1990 Class 2400 went out and some were sold to SNCF for construction work on high speed lines, 2412 amonst them. After that, she had a brief spell with VFLI that painted the loco bright grey with yellow fronts -the fourth livery this loco wore. In 2012 VSM bought the loco and brought backhte days of that brief turqouis spell with Netherlands State railways.

OOC, ex-Strukton 2284 304 (303004) stands at Oss on 10 August 2026 to pick up a cereals train. Strukton used to have four KHD-1200 Diesels for shunting operations and engineering trains. After the influx of nez-cassé electrics and the loss of some shunting francises Strukton discarded their KHD-1200s (that were second-hand bought from HGK); two of which are now in service with OOC for shunting trains in Oss. The 2284 304 still wears the Strukton colours, albeit with the stickers replaced by the blue OOC markings.

In 1998,ex-GDR type V22 shunting Diesel SHM-35 was bought by the Stoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik and earned her nickname Griezel (Creepy) reputedly due to the GDR's origin of the loco, but also because the unreability of the shunter's engine sometimes could be an absolute horror for the shunting crews. In 2006 the drastic solution was followed by replacing the originalengine with a Deutz engine and since that, the loco performs very well. On 6 July 2026 SHM-35 was shuntingat Hoorn after a nice weekend of steam specials.
