The BD "Mutschälle-Zähni": The AVA BDWM BDe 4/4 10 "Mutschälle-Zähni (SWS/MFO 1928) reaches Bremgarten train station as a fondue tram as part of the Bremgarten Christmas market. December 6th, 2024
Stefan Wohlfahrt
The BD "Mutschälle-Zähni": The BDe 4/4 10 was put into operation in 1928. This railcar was built by the Schweizerische Wagonfabrik in Schlieren and the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon, both factories not far from the Bremgarten Dietikon Railway in the Limmattal or near Zurich. The 16.22 meter long, 32 ton heavy and 45 km/h fast railcar was in use with the BD with its sister vehicle BDe 4/4 11 until 1986. While the BDe 4/4 11 has now been scrapped, the BDe 4/4 10 could be converted into a company car. The railcar, which is now used as the "Mutschälle-Zähni" in the special train, offers in many respects a valued contribution to exclusive nostalgic traffic and an interesting contrast to scheduled traffic. Today the “Mutschälle-Zähni” is waiting to be used as a “fondue tram” as part of the famous Bremgarten Christmas market.

The BLS Re 4/4 182 is parked in front of the depot in Brig.
Sadly, the era of this BLS locomotive series is coming to an end.
Currently, the BLS Re 4/4s are only used in motor tunnel traffic, and even there, the Re 465 is increasingly taking over services.

For a school holiday event with a fairly large turnout, the two TPF RABe 527 192 and 197 operated as a special train from Lausanne. It's worth noting that no TPF trains run regularly in Lausanne. Since the large group waited for the special train on platform 3 instead of platform 1, it departed slightly late, which gave me the advantage of still being able to take a few pictures of the train. 60 years of the BoBo / Re 4/4 II – to mark the occasion, the Austrian Federal Railways (OeBB) organized an unprecedented Re 4/4 reunion. Among those "invited" were the Re 4/4 I, BLS Ae 4/4 and Re 4/4 (425), Re 450, and even the RhB narrow-gauge locomotive Ge 4/4 II 613. I only attended this magnificent celebration in passing and for a short time, so I can only share a few pictures here. Balsthal, September 14, 2024

The beautiful Lima RBe 4/4 1435 railcar, which I finally acquired after many years, is really very nice, and I got a lot for my money, as the railcar seems to be somewhat lavishly constructed, probably 1:140 or so. Well, that's not really a criticism*, but rather a side topic... *otherwise, I could have bought the Piko RBe 4/4.

My U36B "Santa Fe" ATSF 353 runs quite well, but the running noise after fifteen years of inactivity made me think that it might not be impossible for the locomotive to break down on the track with a transmission failure. Then I'd have a suitable layout, but no locomotive. To prevent this from happening, New Haven (NH) ALCO RS1 0667 rushed to the rescue from the far north and is now supporting Santa Fe No. 353. Something different: in addition to the recently acquired Lima N-gauge RBe 4/4 1435, I've owned an N-scale model of the U36B "Santa Fe" ATSF 353 diesel locomotive with three cars for many years. Reason enough to showcase the vehicles. The idea is to build a (divided) fairly small model railway for the existing vehicles instead of a diorama. Since technical clarifications regarding the overhead line for the "Swiss" section still need to be finalized, I began by interpreting a small station located somewhere between Canada and Mexico. For this, I can draw on a few old prototype photos from a trip to Florida. Of course, the design is a challenge in terms of space. At least I can show the first pictures. The palm tree is home-made, as is the loading ramp (still under construction). The vehicles are from Bachmann (made in China), and the tracks are from Lima, Roco, and Fleischmann (made in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Romania). April 14, 2025
