Ex-DB 23 076 stands at Loenen on 5 September 2026 during the yearly held train bonanza Terug naar Toen (Back to Yonder)-this photo was shot from 'my' steam train from Beekbergen. Three examples of Class 023 have been saved in the Netherlands and are in fully operational condition. Thanks to their maximum speed of 110 km/h they can be used on main line running specials, albeit being rostered in as quasi freights, since passenger trains are much faster, where freights mostly run with speeds up to 120 km/h.

The decoration on the kettle's dooor of VSM 44 1593 is a wink to the fact, that in the 100th year of ex-DRG Class 44 only one 44 in Western Europe is inoperational condition and that that one is outside Germany! In 1954 Diesel locos of the series 2200 and 2400 were repainted brown and hauled stock turned into Prussian blue -reputedly because dirt was less visible on darker colours.

Ex-NS, now VSM 2233 banks one of the each 45 minutes operating shuttle trains between Beekbergen and Loenen out of Loenen during the annual Terug-naar-Toen train bonanza. Diesel passenger trains in the netherlands have almostalways been operated by DMUs; Diesel loco haulage being very rare; onlyin the proximity of Winterswijk and Zevenaar a few peak hour trains were loco hauled. The passenger stock on this train is the hauled versionof Mat'24 Blokkendoos and VSM each year does a very fine job inrecreating the few Diesel loco hauled trains fromthe past -in combination with German Einheitsdampfloks or GDR ReKos.
