September 2026
September 2026 was marked by the large-scale farewell to Antwerp's PCC trams, with numerous images capturing the last day in service for these iconic vehicles after 66 years, featuring various tram sets at key city locations such as Opera Square and Queen Astrid Square. The transition of Metronom services in northern Germany to DB Regio's subsidiary Start also featured prominently, with several photos documenting the final months and withdrawal of Metronom branding. On the Nürnberg-Augsburg route, the continued use of DB Class 111 locomotives with double-deck stock was noted, alongside the first appearances of Twindexx EMUs. Czech railways saw significant attention due to the impending ECTS mandate, which threatens the operation of many museum trains, and the attempted but ultimately unsuccessful re-enactment of the historic Vindobona train at Benesov u Prahy. Freight and regional operations in Belgium were represented by multiple sightings of NMBS Class 77 locomotives, Siemens Desiro ML units, and various freight services around Antwerp and its airport. Other notable themes included rare passenger operations by MEG, advertising liveries on Lokomotion locomotives, and the continued use of former DB Class 628 DMUs in Czech regional service as Class 845. Weather and lighting conditions ranged from grey December scenes to bright, clear September days, with a focus on transitions-whether technological, corporate, or historical. When NS ordered Class 2400 in 1951, the firstbatch of the Class, 2401-2413 was delivered inturqouise livery to match with the coaches that had a slightly brighter turqouise (the difference is visible inthis picture). Before 1956 NS had second thoughts about turqouise, that can become dirty rather quickly, and decided to use Berlin or Prussian blue for hauled passenger stock. All Diesel locomotives of Classes 2200 and 2400 turned dark brown for freight service untill the 1970s,that saw the rise of dark grey and yellow as the new corporate identity. In 1990 Class 2400 went out and some were sold to SNCF for construction work on high speed lines, 2412 amonst them. After that, she had a brief spell with VFLI that painted the loco bright grey with yellow fronts -the fourth livery this loco wore. In 2012 VSM bought the loco and brought backhte days of that brief turqouis spell with Netherlands State railways.

The railway adventure of the Bernese Oberland - Off-topic, since the JS G 3/3 No. 6 is still under revision and the railways of the Bernese Oberland region were electrified early on, steam operation was also present, and how! After steam operation was prohibited during the summer due to forest fire risk, the HG 3/4 No. 3 of the Blonay-Chamby Railway now shows with a magnificent steam plume what was long thought impossible. The HG 3/4 3 is in the Baye de Clarens gorge on the way from Blonay to Chaulin. September 6, 2026
