It is Saturday 5 September 2026 and the first saturday of September and that means the VSM train bonanza Terug naar Toen (Back to Yonder) that sees every hour a steam train between the VSM's head quartes Beekbergen and Apeldoorn (connecting to the national railways network); five steam trains to Dieren (connecting with the national railways network) and every 45 minutes a steam train to and from Loenen. From 'my' train at Loenen ex-NS 2412 with Plan-D coach was photographed. When NS ordered Class 2400 in 1951, the firstbatch of the Class, 2401-2413 was delivered inturqouise livery to match with the coaches that had a slightly brighter turqouise (the difference is visible inthis picture). Before 1956 NS had second thoughts about turqouise, that can become dirty rather quickly, and decided to use Berlin or Prussian blue for hauled passenger stock. All Diesel locomotives of Classes 2200 and 2400 turned dark brown for freight service untill the 1970s,that saw the rise of dark grey and yellow as the new corporate identity. In 1990 Class 2400 went out and some were sold to SNCF for construction work on high speed lines, 2412 amonst them. After that, she had a brief spell with VFLI that painted the loco bright grey with yellow fronts -the fourth livery this loco wore. In 2012 VSM bought the loco and brought backhte days of that brief turqouis spell with Netherlands State railways.

Ex-NS 2412 stands at the VSM in Beekbergen on 6 September 2015. When NS ordered 129 locos of this Class with Alstom, the Dutch experimented with colour schemes, resulting in this turqois for 2401-2422 before the brown of the 1960s waqs introduced to the whole Class. Since VSM already had a brown 2400, they decided to buy a second loco from a French operator and painted her in this colour scheme.

The first batch of thirteen Diesel lcomotives Class 2400 were delivered in turqouis for possible deployment on passenger trains. The colour however, became dirty very fast and with the influx of DMUs, plans to deploy Class 2400 on passenger trains were dropped immeditely. One of these turqouis locos, NS 2412 , has been preserved by the VSM and is sen here on 4 September 2022 at their depot in Beekbergen.
