The SNCF Z 27516, operating as MOBIGO TER 894008, is en route from Belfort to Besançon Viotte and has arrived at the Montbéliard station. While I generally avoid using German names for non-German-speaking locations, an exception seems appropriate here, as Montbéliard was part of the House of Württemberg for a good 400 years. But back to the railway: Montbéliard is situated on the Dole–Belfort line—opened in 1858—and is served today by TER trains. Prior to the opening of the TGV line, however, it also hosted long-distance services, such as night trains between Luxembourg and Portbou, or the SNCF Turbotrain units running between Lyon and Strasbourg. Furthermore, from 1868, a line connected Montbéliard to Delle; passenger service on this route was discontinued as early as 1938.

In Ventimiglia, slightly in the background, the FS Trenitalia iC 745 is waiting to depart for Milano Centrale. As is typical for this route, it is hauled by two E 414 locomotives, both of which, like the entire train, are sporting the new iC livery. Next to it, on the right, is the SNCF Z55519. The SNCF Regio 2N PHD train will soon depart for Les Arcs.

The Region 2N PHD 55113 UIC: 94 87 59 00 025-0 F-TRSI is operating as Zou! TER on its way from Nice Ville to Marseille and has reached Saint Raphaël. The TER service from Nice to Marseille is operated by Transdev; it is the first privatized line in France. The trains have replaced the SNCF Corail coaches and run hourly instead of every two hours as before.
The picture also shows the rather unappealing station of Saint Raphaël, although the town itself is beautiful.

Due to construction work, the La Plaine - Satigny line is currently only single-track; therefore, the TER coming from Valence in the background has to slow down a bit until the TER to Lyon, partially visible on the right in the picture, clears the track. This was, of course, not very helpful for a successful photo, but on the other hand, it shows the operation up close.

Standing with my back practically at the 1078-meter-long Bois de la Bâtie tunnel portal and using a small free-to-completely-bay area, I was able to photograph the SNCF Coradia Polyvalent regional tri-current Z31507 M on the 167-meter-long Jonction viaduct. The SNCF multiple unit is operating as LEX RL1 23316 on the journey from Coppet to Evian-les-Bains.
