The legend continues! AFter having been assigned to the DB loco shed at Darmstadt in the 1950s, the last of eightteen tank engines of Class 65 (DB, not the much more numerous Class 65.10 of the DR)

The legend continues! AFter having been assigned to the DB loco shed at Darmstadt in the 1950s, the last of eightteen tank engines of Class 65 (DB, not the much more numerous Class 65.10 of the DR) spent a brief spell at the Deutsches Dampflokmuseum after being decommissioned in 1977 before the Rotterdam based SSN bought 65 018 in 1981. Since the SSN has no tracks of her own, deploymend of 65 018 on main line rides always was a bit of a problem due to the rather limited water supply she could carry with her. Mostle deployed on rather short hops or shuttle trains Gouda<=>Rotterdam during the SSN's Open days, she was a natural guest to the VSM during their Terug naar Toen Festival for years. When SN had to decide to shrink their fleet (mainly due to the thread of redevelopment of their area), transferri8ng 65 018 to the VSM was an obvious choice -much to the delight of VSM and many a steam train fan, since the VSM's tracks between Dieren and Apeldoorn are a natural habitat for 65 018 -the only member of het Class that remains. Here 65 018 runs round at Apeldoorn after having hauled one of the annual steam trains on 4 September 2022.

It is Saturday 5 September 2026 and the first saturday of September and that means the VSM train bonanza Terug naar Toen (Back to Yonder) that sees every hour a steam train between the VSM's head quartes Beekbergen and Apeldoorn (connecting to the national railways network); five steam trains to Dieren (connecting with the national railways network) and every 45 minutes a steam train to and from Loenen. At Loenen, a photo freight to Eerbeek awaits departure time and is hauled by 23 071 and a Class 64. A nice touch, since in DB and DR days, Classes 23 and 23.10 were fully assigned to passenger operations.

NS Class 2200 were deliverd all in this brown livery for freight locomotives and deployment on passenger services within NS have been rare. Here VSM 2233 banks a steam hauled shuttle train out of Loenen to Beekbergen.

From 'my' train at Loenen ex-NS 2412 with Plan-D coach was photographed. When NS ordered Class 2400 in 1951, the firstbatch of the Class, 2401-2413 was delivered inturqouise livery to match with the coaches that had a slightly brighter turqouise (the difference is visible inthis picture). Before 1956 NS had second thoughts about turqouise, that can become dirty rather quickly, and decided to use Berlin or Prussian blue for hauled passenger stock. All Diesel locomotives of Classes 2200 and 2400 turned dark brown for freight service untill the 1970s,that saw the rise of dark grey and yellow as the new corporate identity. In 1990 Class 2400 went out and some were sold to SNCF for construction work on high speed lines, 2412 amonst them. After that, she had a brief spell with VFLI that painted the loco bright grey with yellow fronts -the fourth livery this loco wore. In 2012 VSM bought the loco and brought backhte days of that brief turqouis spell with Netherlands State railways.
