THis was a one-off Hudson, because soon after the test were completed succesful, the massive dieselisations and electrifications from the beginning of the 1950s took over quickly and cut short what could have been a majestic steam loco design.

ETAT 140-344 stands in the Cité du Trainj in Mulhouse om 30 May 2019. She was one of a 200 strong order, placed by two British loco building companies because of the need for strong freight locomotives (for troop deployments amongst others). Although build for freight service, these 80 km/h fast engines were often deployed on mundane passenger services. In 1975 the last members of this class went out of service, but 140-344 remains.
