(ID 59584)

After successfully completing my apprenticeship as an operations dispatcher with the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways), I was assigned to work as a relief staff member in Horw—on the Brünig line—during the summer of 1983. While there, I got into a dispute with a senior employee of the LSE (Luzern-Stans-Engelberg railway) regarding an operational issue. In the heat of the moment, I suggested to this employee of the private LSE line that the railway should be nationalized...

Well, in 2025, the Zentralbahn—which is owned by the SBB—is celebrating the very idea I once voiced with the recklessness of youth: 20 years of the Zentralbahn.

To mark the occasion, SBB/Zentralbahn locomotive HGe II 101 965-2 has been given a special anniversary livery, and the Zentralbahn has extended an invitation to two anniversary events in Meiringen and Stans.

Pictured here is the SBB/Zentralbahn 101 965-2 in Meiringen.

When you want to catch a train, you generally head to the station well in advance, happily accepting a few minutes of waiting time. Well, I also wanted to catch a train—or rather, photograph one: the SBB HGe 4/4. In my case, however, the wait didn't last just a few minutes; it spanned nearly four decades before I was finally able to photograph the Muni !

Thanks to the Brünig-Nostalgie-Bahn (Brünig Nostalgia Railway) having restored the HGe 4/4 in 1992, I was finally able to take extensive photographs of this impressive locomotive during the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the Zentralbahn (a subsidiary of the SBB) in Meiringen.

After the HGe 4/4 arrived in Meiringen from Lucerne with its anniversary train in 1992, the train was shunted, providing several interesting photo opportunities.

After the long wait, I treated myself to one more shot of the SBB Brünig HGe 4/4 1992, which was being shunted in Meiringen as part of a special train excursion.

After the SBB Brünig Bahn HGe 4/4 had dropped off its train in 1992, it moved to track 2, where it—along with other vehicles—could be admired by the public.

At Ringgenberg on the magnificent viaduct right in the middle of the town, a Zentralbahn IR is on its way from Interlaken Ost to Lucerne.
