With the reintroduction of direct ICE trains from Basel SBB to Lausanne, SBB RABe 512 trains have taken over service on the new connecting line from Biel/Bienne to Lausanne.

The solution to the puzzle: Presumably to connect the SBB RABe 522 trains still in service in the Jura region to the maintenance depot in Biel/Bienne, a train pair runs as RE56 from the Pruntrut region to Biel/Bienne and back from Monday to Friday. The SBB RABe 522 210 is traveling as RE56 4561 from Bonfol to Biel/Bienne and is leaving the MLB BLS station Grenchen Nord. January 13, 2026

At first glance, a mundane shot: a rear view of an SBB LEX RABe 522; the special feature: the SBB RABe 522 229 is operating as RL7 23535 on its way from Annemasse to Vernier and leaves the CEVA line at Jonction to reach Vernier via the connecting track. This connecting track was not used by passenger trains until the timetable change 2025/26 and is electrified with 25,000 volts 50 Hertz. It serves the (light) freight traffic from Genève La Praille to France (or local freight traffic). Unfortunately, I have not found a route number for this line. July 23, 2023 
