A major day for the SNCF: Over this holiday weekend, a large number of passengers are traveling to the Alps for their winter sports vacations, while others are already heading back home. For this reason, I traveled to Saint-Gervais-des-Bains-Le Fayet to observe the TGV holiday traffic; at a station otherwise served exclusively by TER regional trains, there were quite a few TGV trains to be seen. The 12.4 km long TMB (Tramway du Mont-Blanc) rack railway has been running from Saint Gervais les Bains Le Fayet station to the Nid d'Aigle in the Mont Blanc massif since 1913, with the first section to Col de Voza having been opened in the summer of 1908. A curious feature is the ‘naming’ of the vehicles: they have no identification or number but are named after the director's daughters, and each train has its own colour. At the hairpin bend between Le Fayet and St-Gervais, the Blue MARIE with the control car of the same name is on its way from the Col de Voza to the Saint Gervais les Bains Le Fayet train Station. 21 February 2026

The 186 282 (91 80 6186 282-0 D-Rpool) of Railpool GmbH (Munich), leased to LOKOMOTION Gesellschaft für Schienentraktion mbH (Munich), is running with a combined transport train through Kirchen/Sieg station towards Cologne on October 16, 2026. The Bombardier TRAXX F140 MS was built in 2009 by Bombardier Transportation GmbH in Kassel under factory number 34468 and was originally intended as E 186 912 for CBRail (Luxembourg), but was converted in July 2010 to the country packages and approval for Germany, Austria, and Italy (D/A/I) and then delivered to Railpool GmbH as 186 282. The TRAXX F140 MS is a four-axle multi-system locomotive with a power output of 5,600 kW (4,000 kW at 1.5 kV DC) for cross-border operations. The locomotive mainly hauls freight trains on the main European routes and can be used in all power systems. In freight transport, a maximum speed of 140 km/h is achieved. The 85-ton locomotives have a starting tractive effort of 300 kN.

125 years of the MOB – to mark the occasion, the MOB’s Ge 4/4 8002 locomotive has been given a special livery (or rather, a vinyl wrap). While I personally like it, it does raise the question of whether a modern railway shouldn’t have opted for a somewhat more innovative promotional design. The Ge 4/4 8002 has arrived in Zweisimmen with its GPX Montreux–Interlaken service and is now being shunted onto a siding, as the train will be taken over by a BLS Re 465 locomotive for the remainder of the journey. 125 Years of the MOB – The MOB railcar: the ABDe 8/8! Naturally, it had to be part of the anniversary celebrations. There is an unconfirmed rumor that this railcar will be fully restored for the 150th-anniversary celebrations. At present, the ABDe 8/8 4001 SUISSE —which has been stabled in Lenk for some time—is still in working order, but it is no longer permitted to carry passengers. Upon closer inspection (though not visible in the photo), this beautiful railcar is in need of a major overhaul at the Chernex workshops; however, there are still a few years left until the MOB’s 150th anniversary...

125 years of the MOB—and the fulfillment of a long-held dream: a direct connection between Montreux and Interlaken! On the right in the image is the FZe 6/6 2002; ordered in 1931 and arriving in 1932—right in the midst of the Great Depression—it may have technically arrived too late, yet it perfectly embodies the MOB’s philosophy: to be different from the rest! 125 years of the MOB: I wish the MOB all the best, and may it once again demonstrate that seasoned, reliable service—a quality that has been sorely missed in recent years.
