RXP 9904 stands with some RADVE coupling wagons used for transport moves of new EMUs at Amersfoort on 1 August 2026. Netherlands State Railways NS bought French in 1981 with an order for 58 nez-cassées (Broken Noses) to become Class 1601-1658. Whem the NS loco fleet was sectorised in 1999/2000,NS Cargo (later RaiLioN,then DB Schenker RN,then again DB Cargo) received the first batch of the class 1601-1622, that remained their numbers. NS reizigers, responsible for the passenger traffic, received 1623-1658 and renumbered them into the 1800-series, since Class 1700 already was their and to seperate the identity of their own locos with/against those of NS Cargo. After NS and later DBSRN/DB Cargo NL discarded their 1600s/1800s, private operators were quick to pick up a few locos, somethimes retainingthe 1600/1800 numbers, but sometimes giving them new numbers (RRF 4401 and 4402 and LOCON Benelux 9901-9910).
This engine started life as NS 1618 until decommmissioned, after which Railogix bought the machine, giving her this SNCF Multiservice inspired livery. In 2020 Railogix stopped her operations and stored the loco at Amersfoort. One year later LOCON Benelux went bankrupt and their Class 9900s went everywhere, mostof them becoming assets of RFO. But not this 9904, since LOCON's own 9904 was another machine, reverting to her number 1831 after havingbeen bought by RFO. So Classes 1600 and 1800 are identical, but the one 9904 is not the other... because RXP bought LOCON's 9901,theydecided to number subsequent locos of this Class into their 9900s. Complicated? Absolutely not, just nigh impossoble to follow...
