This DMU once connected Berlin and Wien via Praha in the 1960s fast international services, possible due to Austria being a neutral country during the (First) Cold War between 1947 and 1989. This DMU has ben restored to fully operational status.

The last train from Wiener Neustadt to Vienna on 15 September 2024 was this RailJet with mundane red 1216 006 pushing. From 14;00 that day, massive flods took out all railway lines to and from Vienna. Having arrived with 40 minutes delay from Murzzuschlag, this train will leave Wiener Neustadt with an extra hour delay whilst getting completely overcrowded. Next day, storm BORIS took out almost the entire Austrian railway network, sparing only the Tyrol.
