Rail Pictures, Railway Photos, Trains from August 2026

413 Photos
August 2026 was characterized by a strong focus on railway activity in and around Antwerp, with multiple freight and infrastructure trains documented along line 27A near Antwerp Airport, including locomotives from Lineas, Infrabel, Medway, Europorte, and DB Cargo. Repeated appearances of the modern Bombardier Traxx F140 MS and NMBS Class 13 locomotives highlighted their prominence in Belgian cross-border freight services. Blonay remained a central location for Swiss railway enthusiasts, featuring several CEV MVR GTW ABeh 2/6 units and ongoing model railway activity with classic Z-scale trains such as the Märklin mini club SBB Ae 3/6 10460. The Sächsisches Eisenbahnmuseum Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf hosted its 33rd Heizhausfest, with a loco parade and depot scenes involving notable steam and diesel locomotives like 91 896, 80 023, and ex-DR Taiga Drum 120 269. Weather conditions were varied, with several events taking place on grey or rainy days, notably at Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf and Hoorn. Historic and modern EMUs from NMBS, such as MS75 and MS80-83 classes, were captured operating between Lier and Antwerp. The motif of railway festivals and open weekends persisted, with references to steam events in Switzerland and Germany. Model railways and heritage operations provided a further layer of variety, showcasing both miniature and full-size preserved rolling stock. EU label: AI-generated content

In Sumiswald, the traditional Gotthelf Market takes place, and for this market, the Emmental Railway operates several steam trains on the Sumiswald Grünen - Wasen i.E. route. The picture shows the E 3/3 853 of the Dampf Bahn Bern association shunting in Wasen in the Emmental. The steam locomotive was built in 1890 in Winterthur under factory number 629 and delivered as F3 853 to the J-S (Jura-Simplon Railway). At the SBB, the shunting locomotives of series E 3/3 with operating numbers 851 - 853 were assigned to group 82 and received the numbers 8571 - 8576. In 1911, locomotive E 3/3 853 received a new boiler and was sold to the RVT, where it remained in service until 1928 before being used as an industrial shunting locomotive at Von Roll in Gerlafingen and Klus. When diesel locomotives made the steam locomotive obsolete, it was saved from scrapping by the Düby Foundation by being handed over to the DBB. After an overhaul in 1983, it operated, among other places, on the Sensetalbahn. Following another overhaul in 2021, the DBB E 3/3 853 is mainly used on the Emmentalbahn route between Sumiswald-Grünen and Wasen i.E. Today, the E 3/3 853 carries the UIC number 90 85 0008 573-7.

About the Sumiswald-Grünen Wasen i.E. route: This line was opened together with the Ramsei - Huttwil route by the RSHB on June 1, 1908, but could not be operated profitably. In 1994, the VHB converted the line to bus operation. Since 2014, the ETB has taken over the route, and besides freight traffic to the RUWA siding, museum trains run on the line.
