Two SBB ICN RABDe 500 trains are operating between Essert-Pittet and Ependes VD as IC5 519 on the way from Lausanne to Rorschach. The Lausanne-Yverdon line was opened on May 7, 1855, from Bussigny to Yverdon, and two years later, service to Lausanne began. On November 1, 1921, the Chavornay-Ependes section was upgraded to double track, and on May 14, 1933, the Ependes-Yverdon section of the line, which had been electrically operated since February 1, 1925, was upgraded to double track. It should be noted that the double track upgrade of the Lausanne-Bienne/Bienne line began in stages in 1872 and is now nearing completion with the final section, Ligerz-Twann. July 12, 2025

On the Lausanne - Biel/Bienne line, long-distance traffic is firmly in the hands of the SBB ICN RABDe 500. However, due to the construction-related closure of the Fribourg - Bern line, two additional train pairs per day run from Neuchâtel to Lausanne and back to relieve the scheduled ICN services. Typically, one of these train pairs is operated by two RABe 502 Twindexx locomotives. The photo shows two of the rarely seen Twindxx RABe 502 locomotives traveling from Neuchâtel to Lausanne between Ependes (VD) and Essert-Pittet. The BD Mutschälle-Zähni : The BDe 4/4 10 was put into operation in 1928. This railcar was built by the Schweizerische Wagonfabrik in Schlieren and the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon, both factories not far from the Bremgarten Dietikon Railway in the Limmattal or near Zurich. The 16.22 meter long, 32 ton heavy and 45 km/h fast railcar was in use with the BD with its sister vehicle BDe 4/4 11 until 1986. While the BDe 4/4 11 has now been scrapped, the BDe 4/4 10 could be converted into a company car. The railcar, which is now used as the Mutschälle-Zähni in the special train, offers in many respects a valued contribution to exclusive nostalgic traffic and an interesting contrast to scheduled traffic. Today the “Mutschälle-Zähni” is waiting to be used as a “fondue tram” as part of the famous Bremgarten Christmas market.

The complex renovation work on the Baye de Clarens Viaduct has been completed. To withstand the constant pressure of the mountain, a pier on the Blonay side was designed so that the viaduct slides flexibly and only needs to be readjusted in 20 to 25 years.

Construction work has begun and is urgently needed, as the mountain is pushing from the Blonay side toward Chamby. This will deform the viaduct and subsequently degrade it.
