A masquerade at the VSM in Beekbergen on 2 September 2018. When in 1944 the US Army launched their massive liberation effort of Western Europe, massive orders for steam and diesel locos wree placed by the military to cope with the expected extra traffic and shunting work (the armies needed to be equipped and replenished with fresh troops, materiel, tanks and usables like food, water and munition). Whitcomb Locomotive Company modified a 1943 design for the USATC and sold more than a hundred of these to the military. After the War, France,, Italy and the Netherlands bought the for the USATC surplus locos. NS bought twenty, 18 of which entered service and two for spares, numbering them 2001-2018. In 2018, VSM hit the fraternity headlines when they bought an old American Whitcomb and restored her externally in NS 1950s condition. Sinds she was not of the original NS-batch, the VSM followed preservation customs with giving their newby the first number after the last original, hence planting No.2019 in her fleet.

Toen in 1944 het Amerikaanse leger hun enorme bevrijdingsoperatie van West-Europa lanceerde, werden er door het leger massale bestellingen geplaatst voor stoom- en diesellocomotieven om het verwachte extra verkeer en rangeerwerk aan te kunnen (de legers moesten worden uitgerust en aangevuld met verse troepen, materieel, tanks en gebruiksartikelen zoals voedsel, water en munitie). Whitcomb Locomotive Company paste een ontwerp uit 1943 aan voor de USATC en verkocht meer dan honderd van deze locomotieven aan het leger. Na de oorlog kochten Frankrijk, Italië en Nederland de voor de USATC overtollige locomotieven. NS kocht twintig, waarvan er 18 in dienst kwamen en twee als reserve, genummerd 2001-2018. In 2018 haalde de VSM de krantenkoppen binnen toen zij een oude Amerikaanse Whitcomb kochten en deze extern restaureerden in NS-staat uit de jaren 1950. Omdat zij niet tot de oorspronkelijke NS-serie behoorde, volgde de VSM de behoudstradities door hun nieuwkomer het eerste nummer na de laatste originele te geven, en plaatste zo nr. 2019 in haar vloot. 

Ex-NS 2412 stands at the VSM in Beekbergen on 6 September 2015. When NS ordered 129 locos of this Class with Alstom, the Dutch experimented with colour schemes, resulting in this turqois for 2401-2422 before the brown of the 1960s waqs introduced to the whole Class. Since VSM already had a brown 2400, they decided to buy a second loco from a French operator and painted her in this colour scheme.

Thw weather varied quickly on 6 September 2016 at Beekbergen with the VSM. Here, after a short shower, the Sun decided to show up. Ex-NS 2459 got a bit dried up.

Het weer veranderde snel op 6 september 2016 in Beekbergen bij de VSM. Hier besloot de zon na een korte bui tevoorschijn te komen. De voormalige NS 2459 werd een beetje opgedroogd. 

Altmark Rail 1155 hauls an extra train into Passau on 10 May 2018. The coaches were owned by IGE, but after a few serious hishaps, they sold the coaches to a Swiss operator. As it turned out to be, this extra train to Budapest was one of the last IGE-specials. 

With a short tank train, 189 077 speeds through Blerick on 25 November 2020. A fwe seconds later, a departing EMU closed the gap, that just made this picture possible.
