A scene from Büren an der Aare, featuring a term typical of the railway jargon of that era: "Stücker." This was the name given to local freight trains that served stations once or twice a day—delivering freight wagons or collecting them—essentially handling the inbound and outbound movement of goods. At almost every station, less-than-carload (LCL) freight was also handled, which meant that at least one covered freight wagon had to be placed at the goods shed or retrieved from it. Naturally, with so much shunting involved, a "Stücker" train would spend a considerable amount of time on its journey. Pictured here on track 2 in Büren an der Aare is locomotive Ae 4/7 10966 with its "Stücker" train. An analog photograph from April 1985.
