In Lausanne, the S 40 24633, consisting of two SBB Domino trains, waits for departure to Palézieux. It's easy to see that the leading Domino consists of the former Travys ABt NPZ DO 50 85 39-43 984-6 CH-SBB, B NPZ DO 50 85 29-43 384-1 CH-SBB, and RBDe 560 DO 94 85 7 384-0 SBB-CH. Due to construction work, the train shuttled back and forth between Palézieux and Lausanne, turning around on track 3 each time. This gave me the opportunity to photograph the train in the  right  light during the coffee break this morning.

The akiem 64 F4 082 (91 80 189 982-2 D-AKIIEM) is waiting in Lausanne with a track-laying machine for its imminent onward journey toward Vevey. Since the DB 185 took over the  Novelis  trains, the already rare operations of the BR 189 in the Lausanne area have become very rare, making this aktiem 64 F4 082 (91 80 189 982-2 D-AKIIEM) an unusual motif.

New since the timetable change: The IC 1 trains from Geneva Airport to St Gallen (and several others) make a stop in Renens VD. This means that the Lausanne train station, which is bordering on its limits, can be relieved somewhat.

The Mallet steam locomotive 2-8-8-2 - Y6b 2197 of the Norfolk & Western, which is powerful even in H0, fights its way through the snow. The design of the Mallet model locomotives is based on information provided by the U.S.R.A. (United States Raitroad Administration) introduced during the First World War. The class Y6b locomotives were delivered from 1936. Basically, the Y6b class was designed to pull heavy freight trains at 30 mph, but in good conditions up to 50 mph could be achieved. 

The model of this articulated locomotive type Mallet “Y 6 b” from the “Norfolk & Western” is probably a good 50 to 60 years old and is a very impressive model implementation in terms of size. It doesn't seem entirely logical to me why the engine was squeezed into the driver's cab with so much space in order to then drive the distant  bogies  using long cardan shafts. The tender is prototypically equipped with two three-axle  Buckeye  bogies, which are also used to collect power. 

The model probably hasn't been driven for a good twenty to thirty years. After I dismantled the model and degreased and re-oiled the moving parts, it has been running again since yesterday, even if I have both the cars and the route for the discontinuation of the mighty model missing.

A few weeks ago, when SBB and TI in Milan announced new direct connections from Zurich to Livorno and Firenze, a green Pinocchio was presented to the press. Accordingly, Treniatlia is undergoing a renovation of its ETR 610, which also includes painting it in the new eC colors. Today I finally managed to photograph such an ETR 610, even though the location and light were not ideal. The FS Trenitlia ETR 610 004 is traveling as EC 40 from Milano to Genève and shows itself at the stop in Lausanne.

The FS Trentalia ETR 610 004 (UIC 93 85 5 610 404-1 CH-TI) in the new Trenitalia eC livery as EC 40 at the stop in Lausanne. Interestingly, the train lacks the red warning bar at the front, which is mandatory in Italy.

The FS Trentalia ETR 610 004 (UIC 93 85 5 610 404-1 CH-TI) in the new Trenitalia eC livery leaves Lausanne towards Genève as EC 40. The first encounter with the  new  ETR 610 was interesting and there will certainly be more pictures in better conditions, but it was also an incentive to capture the  old  color scheme as often as possible.

On the ASD, one of the three rounds will continue to be driven by a Beh 4/8, so that of the three new ABe 4/8 471 - 473 only two are ever in use. In the picture the TPC Beh 4/8 592 on the way from Les Diablerets to Aigle. Shortly after the Aigle Château stop and in the middle of the road, the R 71 431 is almost at its destination.
