How times change: a few years ago, I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo. Today, I'm happy to be able to photograph an ICN among all the  Giruno  trains: an SBB RABDe 500 passes by as an IC on its way north.

In strong backlight, the SBB Re 620 034-9 came into my camera, and despite the adverse conditions, I didn't hesitate to take a picture of the beautiful Re 6/6 11634  Aarburg-Oftringen.

In addition to the ICNs pictures (see ID 54934), I also photographed the RABe 501  Giruno  trains, which have since dominated the Gotthard axis. While they may be dominant, they are not a common sight on the  Gotthard Panorama Route : Due to planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC trains will run via Göschenen - Airolo from Monday to Friday from January 13 to January 24, 2025. After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, it appeared in Göschenen at the appropriate time from midday. The photo was taken near the entrance signal in Göschenen and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016  Glarus  at the front and 501 008  Monte Ceneri  at the rear as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano. Something different: in addition to the recently acquired Lima N-gauge RBe 4/4 1435, I've owned an N-scale model of the U36B  Santa Fe  ATSF 353 diesel locomotive with three cars for many years. Reason enough to showcase the vehicles. The idea is to build a (divided) fairly small model railway for the existing vehicles instead of a diorama. Since technical clarifications regarding the overhead line for the  Swiss  section still need to be finalized, I began by interpreting a small station located somewhere between Canada and Mexico. For this, I can draw on a few old prototype photos from a trip to Florida. Of course, the design is a challenge in terms of space. At least I can show the first pictures. The palm tree is home-made, as is the loading ramp (still under construction). The vehicles are from Bachmann (made in China), and the tracks are from Lima, Roco, and Fleischmann (made in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Romania). April 14, 2025

My U36B  Santa Fe  ATSF 353 runs quite well, but the running noise after fifteen years of inactivity made me think that it might not be impossible for the locomotive to break down on the track with a transmission failure. Then I'd have a suitable layout, but no locomotive. To prevent this from happening, New Haven (NH) ALCO RS1 0667 rushed to the rescue from the far north and is now supporting Santa Fe No. 353. April 18, 2025

Well, that's not really a criticism*, but rather a side topic... *otherwise, I could have bought the Piko RBe 4/4.
