The traditional Gotthelf Market takes place in Sumiswald, and for this market, the "Emmental Railway" operates several steam trains on the Sumiswald Grünen - Wasen i.E. route. The picture shows the E 3/3 853 of the Dampf Bahn Bern association entering Sumiswald Grünen. The steam locomotive was built in 1890 in Winterthur under factory number 629 and delivered as F3 853 to the J-S (Jura Simplon Railway). At the SBB, the shunting locomotives of series E 3/3 with operating numbers 851 - 853 were assigned to group 82 and received the numbers 8571 - 8576. In 1911, locomotive E 3/3 853 received a new boiler and was sold to the RVT, where it remained in service until 1928, after which it was used as an "industrial shunting locomotive" at Von Roll in Gerlafingen and Klus. When diesel locomotives made the steam locomotive obsolete, it was saved from scrapping by the Düby Foundation by being handed over to the DBB. After an overhaul in 1983, it was put into operation, among other places, on the Sensetal Railway. Following another overhaul in 2021, the DBB E 3/3 853 is mainly used on the Emmental Railway route Sumiswald Grünen - Wasen i.E. Today, the E 3/3 853 carries the UIC number 90 85 0008 573-7.
