The very last steam locomotive delivered to the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) has taken over a special train—which arrived in Meiringen from Interlaken—to continue the journey toward Brünig Hasliberg, and is now departing Meiringen.
The mountain locomotive, an HG 3/3 numbered 1068, was delivered by SLM in 1926 (serial number 3134) as the final unit in a series of 18 such locomotives (SBB group 94). At the time, the locomotive cost 110,000 Swiss francs. Four locomotives of the same design were also acquired by the BOB (Berner Oberland-Bahn). Today, the HG 3/3 1068 belongs to the BDB (Brünig Dampf Bahn, formerly the Ballenberg Dampfbahn). This attractive locomotive has also become well-known in Germany, following its excursion to the Brohltalbahn—home of the "Vulkan-Express." Incidentally, the HG 3/3 1068 was not, in fact, the absolute last steam locomotive delivered to the SBB; in 1947, the SBB received the D 1/3 "Limmat," a replica of the original D 1/3 No. 1 from 1847.
