How times change: a few years ago, I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo. Today, I'm happy to be able to photograph an ICN among all the "Giruno" trains: an SBB RABDe 500 passes by as an IC on its way north. January 21, 2025 

Two SBB ICN RABDe 500 trains are operating between Essert-Pittet and Ependes VD as IC5 519 on the way from Lausanne to Rorschach. The Lausanne-Yverdon line was opened on May 7, 1855, from Bussigny to Yverdon, and two years later, service to Lausanne began. On November 1, 1921, the Chavornay-Ependes section was upgraded to double track, and on May 14, 1933, the Ependes-Yverdon section of the line, which had been electrically operated since February 1, 1925, was upgraded to double track. It should be noted that the double track upgrade of the Lausanne-Bienne/Bienne line began in stages in 1872 and is now nearing completion with the final section, Ligerz-Twann. July 12, 2025 
