The two C 5/6 locomotives 2978 and 2969 are on their way from Bellinzona to Bellinzona. The steam train is being re-formed in Göschenen for the onward journey through the Gotthard Tunnel. The two steam locomotives were photographed before the SBB Re 4/4 II 11161 took the lead. Oct. 21, 2017

How times change: a few years ago, I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo. Today, I'm happy to be able to photograph an ICN among all the  Giruno  trains: an SBB RABDe 500 passes by as an IC on its way north.

In addition to the ICNs pictures (see ID 54934), I also photographed the RABe 501  Giruno  trains, which have since dominated the Gotthard axis. While they may be dominant, they are not a common sight on the  Gotthard Panorama Route : Due to planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC trains will run via Göschenen - Airolo from Monday to Friday from January 13 to January 24, 2025. After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, it appeared in Göschenen at the appropriate time from midday. The photo was taken near the entrance signal in Göschenen and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016  Glarus  at the front and 501 008  Monte Ceneri  at the rear as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano. Oprócz zdjęć ICN (patrz ID 54934), sfotografowałem również pociągi RABe 501 "Giruno", które od tego czasu zdominowały oś Gotthardzką. Mimo że są dominujące, nie są powszechnym widokiem na "Gotthard Panorama Route": z powodu planowanych prac konserwacyjnych w tunelu bazowym Gotthard, większość pociągów IC/EC będzie kursować trasą przez Göschenen - Airolo od poniedziałku do piątku w okresie od 13 do 24 stycznia 2025 roku. Po tym, jak słońce zniknęło za górami w Airolo w południe, pojawiło się w Göschenen o odpowiedniej porze od południa. Zdjęcie zostało wykonane w pobliżu sygnału wjazdowego w Göschenen i przedstawia dwa pociągi SBB RABe 501 016 "Glarus" z przodu oraz 501 008 "Monte Ceneri" z tyłu jako IC 21 10671 w podróży z Bazylei SBB do Lugano. 21 stycznia 2025 roku

Since the Gotthard Highway Tunnel, which opened in 1981, needs to be renovated, they have the luxury of building a second tube during the renovation. After the renovation, both tubes will offer more safety by separating traffic directions, but will only be allowed to have one lane per tube. It will be interesting to see whether this will be adhered to... The excavated material will be transported to Flüelen by train. The Railpool 186 497 has arrived in Airolo with its block freight train consisting of Sggrrs S 204 double wagons. The wagons are then maneuvered under the loading device (left in the picture) and loaded. January 21, 2025
