The SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (ex SBB Ee 3/3 II 16515, ex SNCF C 20155) of the "Team C-20155" association is waiting in Bahlstahl for its deployment for cab rides to the Klus. The three-aspect signal indicates that this is a train movement. The dual-current Ee 3/3 II, originally designed as a shunting locomotive, was procured by SNCF as a line locomotive for freight trains between Saint Louis and Muttenz in nine units, because after the electrification of the SNCF Mulhouse - Basel line, the transport of freight trains led to complaints from residents. Quite surprisingly, Basel was considered a stronghold of steam operation in Switzerland around 1960! Incidentally, years later, similar complaints prevented the through operation of line 4 express trains from Paris Est to Basel with the CC 72000 diesel locomotives; in Belfort or Mulhouse, the locomotives usually had to be changed. But back to the SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (ex SBB Ee 3/3 II 16515, ex SNCF C 20155) of the "Team C-20155" association. A rare type of SNCF locomotive, which came to the SBB after about ten years and served in shunting service there for about forty years, later rescued from scrapping and restored "back" to the original SNCF version, may be surprising and seemed somewhat controversial. However, I find the solution very good, as it highlights the beautiful locomotive. Moreover, although the locomotive may have been used by SNCF in line service and operated about half the time on the border traffic with SNCF and SBB, considering the territorial border, the SNCF C 20150 only ran three kilometers in France on the total 15 kilometers between Saint Louis and Muttenz. Even today, Ee 3/3 locomotives can still be seen in operation, although the Ee 3/3 16408 (97 85 1930 408-0) of RUWA shown here is enjoying the weekend rest on this Saturday and is probably one of the very last Ee 3/3s still in service (another one was still in Sumiswald on this day).

The beautifully restored SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (formerly SBB Ee 3/3 II 1615, formerly SNCF C 20155) is on its way from Balsthal to Klus and was photographed near the ‘A’ entry signal in Balsthal.
