Since many intermodal trains on the Betuweroute are shuttle trains, sometimes light running is necessary when one leg of the shuttle train (like from Saxony to Rotterdam in this example) has been cancelled and the return service (Roterdam to Saxony in this case) uses the locomotive that has brought the first leg (that has been cancelled in this example).
