Passing Lions Mouth, train passes through an overhanging rock on the way to Kadugannawa on 6th 1uly 2012. The train is negotiating a bend and that is the reason for its tilt towards the cliff. These engines were gifted by the Canadian government and all were named with different provinces. This was named “ Montrial”.

A Lions Mouth szikla mellett, a vonat egy túlnyúló sziklán halad át Kadugannawa felé 2012. július 6-án. A vonat egy kanyart vesz, ezért dől a sziklafal felé. Ezeket a mozdonyokat a kanadai kormány ajándékozta, és mindegyiket különböző tartományokról nevezték el. Ennek a neve „Montrial” volt. 

Class M9 French ALSTOM RUSHTON DIESEL. 10 of these were introduced to SLR and very few are remaining in service. This is an unidentified( number missing ) M9 travers down Kadugannawa with an empty rake of fuel wagons on 6th July 2012.

Henschel Thyssen Class M6 796 just started moving out of Ambewela station in hill country of Sri Lanka on 15th April 2012. The long journey from Colombo will end up in Badulla which is few station away.139 ¼ mile post is visible on the left side of the picture which is the distance from Colombo. The total distance Badulla terminus is 187 miles.

La Henschel Thyssen Classe M6 796 vient de commencer à quitter la gare d'Ambewela dans les montagnes du Sri Lanka le 15 avril 2012. Le long trajet depuis Colombo se terminera à Badulla, qui se trouve à quelques stations. Le poteau milliaire 139 ¼ est visible sur le côté gauche de la photo, indiquant la distance depuis Colombo. These pictures are in memory of Tsunami

On 2004 Dec 26th EMD GM Class M2 591 “ Manitoba” was pulling one of the passenger train from Colombo on the coastal line when it got caught to Tsunami. To escape from the waves thousands of people got into the train when it stopped due to a signal failure. Except very few people thousands washed away with the train, It became one of the major train tragedies in the world. Few years after Tsunami, 591 was back on tracks. This was captured on Sep 9th 2010 when it was plying a passenger train on the main line.

Ces photos sont en mémoire du Tsunami Le 26 décembre 2004, la locomotive EMD GM Classe M2 591 « Manitoba » tirait l'un des trains de passagers depuis Colombo sur la ligne côtière lorsqu'elle a été prise dans le tsunami. Pour échapper aux vagues, des milliers de personnes sont montées dans le train lorsqu'il s'est arrêté à cause d'une panne de signalisation. À l'exception de très peu de personnes, des milliers ont été emportées avec le train, ce qui en fait l'une des plus grandes tragédies ferroviaires au monde. Quelques années après le tsunami, la 591 est revenue sur les rails. Cette photo a été prise le 9 septembre 2010 alors qu'elle assurait un train de passagers sur la ligne principale. 

WDM (Varanasi class) M8 diesel electric locomotive 848 on the turntable at Anuradhapura station on Jun 2012, I was helping the turn table operator by giving a small push.

EMD G12 Class M2 592 “ Nova Scotia” is ready for its departure from Mahawe Junction to the terminus in Trinco which is in the east coast. Semaphore home signal is clearly visible with its arm down to say “all clear”. Semaphore signalling is still been used in some parts of the country including the main line. this was captured in Aug 2012.

La EMD G12 Classe M2 592 « Nova Scotia » est prête pour son départ de Mahawe Junction vers le terminus à Trinco, situé sur la côte est. Le signal d'arrêt à sémaphore est clairement visible avec son bras baissé pour indiquer « voie libre ». La signalisation par sémaphore est encore utilisée dans certaines parties du pays, y compris sur la ligne principale. Cette photo a été prise en août 2012. 
