Around the Railway (Autumn Event 2024) - In 1972, GFM acquired two railcars, designated BDe 4/4 141 and 142, for gravel transport. These railcars were initially used with gravel trains and a control car. Later, they operated as shuttle trains in regional services for GFM and TPF, each time sporting the then-current livery. GFM Histoique restored its BDe 4/4 141 and is displaying it in its original colors. The relatively modern design, combined with the already somewhat dated 1972 livery, gives the BDe 4/4 141 a particularly striking appeal. The photo shows the railcar in Blonay.

The traditional Gotthelf Market takes place in Sumiswald, and the Emmental Railway (Emmentalbahn) runs several steam trains on the Sumiswald Grünen - Wasen i.E. line for this event. The picture shows the E 3/3 853 of the Bern Steam Railway Association traveling from Sumiswald to Wasen near the Oberei stop.

This steam locomotive was built in Winterthur in 1890 under factory number 629 and delivered to the Jura-Simplon Railway (J-S) as F3 853. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) assigned the E 3/3 series shunting locomotives, numbered 851-853, to Group 82 and renumbered 8571-8576. In 1911, locomotive E 3/3 853 received a new boiler and was sold to the RVT (Regional Transport Company) where it remained in service until 1928, when it was used as an industrial shunting locomotive by Von Roll in Gerlafingen and Klus. When diesel locomotives made steam locomotives obsolete, the Düby Foundation saved this one from being scrapped by transferring it to the DBB (Deutsche Bahn-Gesellschaft). After an overhaul in 1983, it entered service on the Sensetalbahn, among other lines. Following another overhaul in 2021, the DBB E 3/3 853 is primarily used on the Emmentalbahn line between Sumiswald-Grünen and Wasen i.E. Today, the E 3/3 853 bears the UIC number 90 85 0008 573-7. The SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (ex SBB Ee 3/3 II 16515, ex SNCF C 20155) of the Team C-20155 association is leaving Balsthal towards Klus. The three-point signal indicates that this is a train movement. The dual-current Ee 3/3 II, originally designed as a shunting locomotive, was procured by the SNCF in a number of nine units as mainline locomotives for freight trains between Saint Louis and Muttenz. This was due to complaints from local residents following the electrification of the SNCF line between Mulhouse and Basel. This is quite surprising, as Basel was considered a stronghold of steam operation in Switzerland around 1960! Incidentally, years later, similar complaints prevented the continuous use of CC 72000 diesel locomotives for the Line 4 long-distance trains from Paris Est to Basel. In Belfort or Mulhouse, the locomotive had to be changed in most cases. But back to the SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (ex SBB Ee 3/3 II 16515, ex SNCF C 20155) of the association Team C-20155 .

But back to the SNCF C 20155 UIC No. 97 85 1 932-0 (ex SBB Ee 3/3 II 16515, ex SNCF C 20155) of the Team C-20155 association. A rare example of an SNCF locomotive, which after a good ten years went to the SBB and spent a good forty years shunting there, was later saved from scrap and restored back to its original SNCF version. This may seem surprising and not entirely uncontroversial. However, I think the solution is excellent; it really makes this beautiful locomotive stand out. Furthermore, while the locomotive may have been used by the SNCF in mainline service and, in cross-border traffic, ran roughly half the time on SNCF and half on SBB lines, if you consider the territorial border, the SNCF C 20150 locomotives only traveled three kilometers in France out of a total of 15 kilometers between Saint Louis and Muttenz.
