It doesn't always have to be the Château de Chillon... In Rivaz, near the Château de Glérolles, a fishing boat chugs by, making the train in the background almost seem irrelevant, although the SBB RABDe 502 is rarely seen here. August 19, 2024

After the BLS RE 11 4545 with the BLS RABe 528 111 and 101 from Biel/Bienne arrives in Iselle, the line ends on the RE 1 to Bern. But first, the BLS car tunnel train must depart with the Re 4/4 195 to Brig. A few words about the location of this photo. I was standing on the sloping road next to a wall and was able to comfortably position my camera on the wall's edge. The whole thing was observed by Italian border guards, which guarantees that the law was fully observed. August 17, 2024

Due to construction work, buses are running as a rail replacement service between Iselle and Domodossola. In addition, the BLS is running its RE 1 trains to Iselle every hour (instead of every two hours). The photo shows a BLS RABe 528 departing for Bern in Iselle.

The train served Lyss, Zollikofen, Ostermundigen, Gümligen, Münsingen, Thun, Spiez, Mülenen, Reichenbach im Kandertal, Frutigen, Kandersteg, Goppenstein, Hohtenn, Ausserberg, Eggerberg, and Brig; therefore, it did not travel via Bern. The train consists of BLS RABe 528 111 and 101. Several buses are available for onward travel due to construction work. The property line between FS and SBB lies in the 169-meter-long Iselle Tunnel, shown here, of which 144 meters belong to SBB.

How times change: a few years ago, I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo. Today, I'm happy to be able to photograph an ICN among all the  Giruno  trains: an SBB RABDe 500 passes by as an IC on its way north.

In addition to the ICNs pictures (see ID 54934), I also photographed the RABe 501  Giruno  trains, which have since dominated the Gotthard axis. While they may be dominant, they are not a common sight on the  Gotthard Panorama Route : Due to planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC trains will run via Göschenen - Airolo from Monday to Friday from January 13 to January 24, 2025. After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, it appeared in Göschenen at the appropriate time from midday. The photo was taken near the entrance signal in Göschenen and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016  Glarus  at the front and 501 008  Monte Ceneri  at the rear as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano.
