How times change: a few years ago I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo, today I am happy that I can photograph an ICN between all the "Giruno" trains: The SBB RABe 500 006 " Johanna Spyri" as IC 2 10865 on the way from Zurich HB to Lugano passes the highlight of its journey in Airolo and is now heading through the Leventina towards its destination drive. Of course, I also photographed the RABe 501 "Giruno", which has since become dominant on the Gotthard axis; No matter how dominant they may be, they are not an everyday occurrence on the "Gotthard Panorama Route": As a result of planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC will run from Monday to Friday from January 13th to January 24th, 2025 via Göschenen - Airolo . After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, things turned out well in Göschenen from midday onwards. The picture was taken near the Göschenen entrance signal and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016 "Glarus" at the front and 501 008 "Monte Ceneri" at the end as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano.
