EMD G12 Class M2 592 “ Nova Scotia” is ready for its departure from Mahawe Junction to the terminus in Trinco which is in the east coast. Semaphore home signal is clearly visible with its arm down to say “all clear”. Semaphore signalling is still been used in some parts of the country including the main line. this was captured in Aug 2012.

These pictures are in memory of Tsunami On 2004 Dec 26th EMD GM Class M2 591 “ Manitoba” was pulling one of the passenger train from Colombo on the coastal line when it got caught to Tsunami. To escape from the waves thousands of people got into the train when it stopped due to a signal failure. Except very few people thousands washed away with the train, It became one of the major train tragedies in the world. Few years after Tsunami, 591 was back on tracks. This was captured on Sep 9th 2010 when it was plying a passenger train on the main line.
