Eastbound Amtrak train just departing the Burlington, Iowa depot on 24 May 2005. Since it most likely passed a freight train west of Burlington, the Amtrak is on track 2, closest to the river, usually where the westbound train would be. I took a sequence, and the train will change to the "normal" eastbound track right on the switch close to the South Street crossing which is at the bottom of the photo.

Amtrak 177 pulls its train from the westbound track onto the eastbound track at the South Street crossing in Burlington, Iowa. You can clearly see the difference in height of the old baggage cars and the new Amtrak passenger cars in this view. The reason the lower lights seem to change in intensity is that they flash back and forth when the horn sounds.

Close up of the front of Amtrak 177. The lower right light is not burned out, these lower lights flash on and off when the horn sounds. Lok is in the South Street crossing 30 July 2003.

My friend Troy Rickenburg is the engineer on this old Burlington Northern diesel # 1596. I was watching him switch out some soy oil tank cars when he suddenly drove over to this track called the "K Line" which follows the Mississippi River and eventually leads to St. Louis, Missouri. But he was only getting off the main line so a coal train could pass by. 30 July 2003.
