locally built 8 of these Y1 shunter were introduced to the service in 1972. The one in the picture was the only one which survived was on display at a railway show in Colombo in 2000.

Henschel Thyssen Class M6 - 786 ready for departure out of Demodara on the way to Badulla. A discarded goods wagon ( the black color object) mount on the side of the platform which is now been used for storage is visible in the picture.

Originally imported as a steam rail car in 1927/8 and in 1972 it was converted to diesel hydro-mechanical rail car powered by Rolls-Royce engine. It is still in running condition but confined to a museum. Out of the 5 units number 232 is the only one which survived. This picture was taken in year 2000 at railway show
