Class 740 was designed for private operators within Czechoslovakia, but some were donated to Bangladesh, earning these machines the nickname Bangladeshka. Since CSD was in search of a decent Diesle shunter, that also could take on shorter line trips, a modified version was designed and produced as Class 742.
