Original Class M5 Hitachi locomotives became unsuccessful and subsequently some of them rehabilitated with Paxmon & Caterpillar engines. The one in the picture is a CLASS M5 -779 fitted with a 1600 hp Caterpillar 3516 DITA engine seen at Peradeniya in 2010. Driver had to slow down due to workers on the track and had to throttle as he was short of the platform. Black smoke is a clear indication that he had given too much power.
