S-Bahn 454 040 staat op het punt om op 18 september 2022 te stoppen bij Johannisthal. Hoewel de serie 454 formeel buiten dienst is gesteld, dwingen aanhoudende tekorten aan recentere materieel S-Bahn Berlin en DB Regio om de serie 454 operationeel te houden. 
