From the area of the DGEG-MUseum in Darmstadt-Kranichstein, one has a good -and perfectlylegal/public- view on passing freights. The personnel of the museum has provided a black plastic band, tied between some poles to show the border between the museums' land and the adjacent DB tracks. There even hang some shields for the photographers, informing them to respect the black band. on 30 May this was respected when 185 115 passed Darmstadt-Kranichstein. When you pay to visit this museum, this spot becomes public ground, hence legal.
