When one of the most beautiful sections of the Genova - Ventimiglia route near Cervia was replaced by a tunnel variant a few years ago, numerous photographers arrived in advance.
The Genova - Savona route opened in 1868. The Savona Ventimiglia continuation, which went into operation in 1972, led through difficult topography in many places and was largely routed along the sea and through the towns.
The route was initially electrified with three-phase current, later planned as V 25,000/50 Hz, and then finally in 1964/1967 it was supplied with FS DC 3000.
But by this time the single-track route along the sea was no longer sufficient to cope with the increasing traffic, so the first new routes were built in the Genova area at the end of the 1960s. In 1977, the Varazzo - Finale Ligure section was the first longer new construction section. Over time, others followed further west, but in Finale Ligure the first new section now meets the last original section. This is also the motif of the pictures from Finalie Ligure, here the FS Trenitalia IC 631 leaves the single-lane, 1136 meter long  Galleria Caprazoppa .

The Aosta Valley lies between Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn, so to speak, and there, about halfway between Chatillon Saint Vincent and Verres, a bimodular FS Trenitalia BUM BTR 813 as RV VdA 2722 is on the way from Aosta to Torino Porta Nuova to Aosta and crosses the river  Dora Baltea by Borgo. I discovered the bridge a good month ago and when looking for a photo spot I quickly found a spot on the outskirts of the small village of Borgo. However, it was only on site that it became apparent that the vegetation had increased far more than I would have liked and I had to move my photo location to a bridge a little south. What the picture doesn't show is a hydroelectric power station on the left and the highway on the right. October 11, 2023

Autumn is also always the time of hunting and, as a result, various tasty game dishes. To mark this occasion, L'Association 141R568 invited people on a culinary tour again this year - with the  Train Chasse . The journey went from Vallorbe via Lausanne and Bern to La Chaux de Fond and back via Chabrelien and Lausanne to Vallorbe. Instead of the usual 141 R 568, this year the ex BLS Ae 6/8 205 was used. The picture shows the train on the outward journey upon arrival in Lausanne. October 14, 2023

The ÖBB 1116 220 provides the “Transalpin” 19793 to Graz in Zurich. Although ÖBB locomotives are not uncommon in Zurich HB, they always come to Zurich with RJ sets. An ÖBB 1116 for SBB cars, however, is the exception. This is probably due to the fact that the train has the unusual route Zurich - Bregenz - Munich - Salzburg - Schwarzach St. Veit Bischofshofen - Leoben - Graz due to construction work. The EC Transalpin will run for 12 hours and 59 minutes.

Shortly before Erstfeld, most trains heading south leave the route of the  old Gotthard  railway and travel through the Gotthard bass tunnel. Since this is currently only in very limited operation, most passenger trains and some freight trains, with a few exceptions, are rerouted via the  old Gotthard railway route , now also called the  Gotthard Panorama route . This means that high-quality passenger trains are safe when passing through Erstfeld Daily life again for a short time. For the vast majority of these services, SBB Giruno RABe 501s are in use, which run in double traction wherever possible. In the picture, the SBB RABe 501 027  Schaffhausen  is in the lead and the 501 010  Basel Land  as IC 10865 from Zurich HB to Lugano passing through Erstfeld.

 Le Chablais en fête  - the BVB HGe 2/2 2 rack railway, built in 1899, can be seen in Chaulin. Since the B-C has no rack sections, the locomotive cannot drive independently on the B-C. The locomotive was originally painted gray, which gave it the name  La Grisette .

For the 125th anniversary of the Bex - Villars - Col-de-Bretaye Railway (BVB), the BDeh 2/4 N° 25 railcar, which went into operation in 1944, was painted in the original BVB livery. The  Flèche  will now complete a return trip from Villars-sur-Ollon to the Col-de-Bretaye on a few days in the anniversary summer. After its journey, the little steam locomotive  Shane  gets some care in the depot before the train goes on another journey. While the locomotive driver (not shown in the picture) supplies the locomotive with peat, the shunting worker oils it heavily, but interestingly enough, the locomotive does not receive any water during this short stay here.

The Andermatt - Disentis trains are usually transported by HGe 4/4II locomotives over the Oberalp Pass, whereby the locomotive of the Disentis - Andermatt train then remains behind in Andermatt after the train has departed from Andermatt to Disentis and transports the next train to Disentis. Due to the extensive renovation of the small station, it was unfortunately hardly possible to photograph the train to Disentis, so the locomotive mentioned in the text is shown here, in this case the MGN HGe 4/4 II 106  San Gottardo .

The BLS Re 465 002 leaves Spiez station with the GoldenPass Express 4064 from Montreux to Interlaken. Especially in Spiez, where north-south transit freight trains and DB ICE also run, the gauge change wagons reveal their fascination! I had the pleasure of traveling from Montreux to Spiez on the train shown here. The Gauge change process in Zweisimmen was surprisingly disappointing - you hardly noticed anything! That's precisely why I continue to be of the opinion that the ingenious technology should be used more in everyday traffic instead of just in purely tourist traffic, such as Bern - Lenk or Zurich - St. Moritz.

The NIR Class 111 number 8113 at Belfast Central. The locomotives are identical to the CIE IR Class 141. The NIR procured 3 of these 140 km/fast locomotives, actually for construction train traffic, but here the locomotive appears to be waiting for departure with a passenger train.

 La DER du Blonay-Chamby 2023  - The BOB HGe 3/3 N° 29 is waiting to depart in Blonay.
Slowly but surely the day comes to an end and with it the 55th season. But as can be read on the train indicator, B-C trains will run from Blonay to Chamby again from May 4, 2024.

 La DER du Blonay-Chamby 2023  - The LEB G 3/3 N° 5 had to move out a bit in Blonay for a shunting movement. The picture shows the train near the level crossing and the engine driver observing the maneuver in Blonay station.

 La DER du Blonay-Chamby 2023  - The Baye de Clarens Viaduct is being restored. The Blonay-Chamby railway offered a trip to visit the viaduct. It was not planned to get out, but given the small number of participants, it was possible under strict observation of the staff for safety reasons.

 La DER du Blonay-Chamby 2023  - Some low pressure, foehn and yet weak sunshine combined with the smoke from the two B-C steam locomotives created an attractive atmosphere in the BW of Chaulin. The two B-C BFD HG 3/4 N° and LEB G 3/3 N° 5 will be supplied for the next mission.

Swiss Steam Days Brienz 2018 - of course this also includes the Brienz Rothorn Railway, which is already steaming here. As part of the festivities, the BRB offered a few trains from Brienz to Gäldried and back. The picture shows the coal-fired H 2/3 N° 7 with its train to the Brienzer Rothorn summit station.
